A Worldwide Love Story

Cole and Lucy’s story began over drinks at a Polish bar. Cole was stationed in Europe and met Lucy while visiting friends in Poland. They quickly formed a friendship, but work and school pulled them to different continents. It wasn’t until a spontaneous weekend trip—two years after they first met—that they realized their connection was something more. In 2025, they traveled to the U.S. to elope in the Sawooth Mountains. After their private ceremony they returned to Boise to celebrate at the Capitol with their families.

Sunrise Vows in Stanley with Family Portraits at the Capitol

For their Boise Capitol elopement, Lucy and Cole started their wedding day with a private sunrise ceremony in the mountains of Stanley, Idaho. In Poland, wedding rings are traditionally worn on the right hand, and during their ceremony, the couple honored this custom by exchanging rings on their right hands.

Lucy and Cole spent a few hours in Stanley enjoying the surroundings and taking photos with the mountains. Later that morning they met their families at the Idaho State Capitol for family portraits before heading to lunch. It was important to the couple to have a private exchange of vows alongside celebrating with their immediate families in a beautiful city. After eloping in Idaho they had a traditional reception in Poland.

5 Tips for Eloping at the Boise Capitol

The State Capitol is a beautiful location choice for a simple and timeless feeling elopement. The building’s marble halls, soft natural light, and classic architecture create an elegant atmosphere without any extra effort. Before you head out to say your vows under those iconic columns, here are five tips to help your Boise Capitol elopement day go smoothly.

1. Know the Rules for Eloping at the Capitol

One of the best parts of choosing the Capitol for your elopement is how easy it is to use. Small ceremonies are welcome during normal business hours, and there’s no fee to use the space. You also don’t need a permit to get married inside or on the grounds. See more info at this website.

2. Expect a Public Setting

The Capitol is a working building, which means you’ll likely encounter visitors, employees, and the occasional school group. If you prefer a quieter moment, plan for an early morning ceremony. When the legislature is in session, a huge American flag hangs in the center of the rotunda—beautiful, but very noticeable.

Before you pick a date, it’s smart to check the building’s event calendar to make sure there isn’t another gathering happening at the same time.

3. Plan for the Best Lighting

The Capitol is at its most beautiful early in the day. Morning light streams through the windows, creating soft, flattering illumination, especially inside the rotunda and hallways. Scheduling your Boise Capitol elopement ceremony or photo session in the morning ensures your photos will capture the elegance of the space in its best light.

4. Keep Décor Simple and Be Mindful of the Season

The architecture does most of the heavy lifting here. You’re welcome to bring the basics—rings, vows, a bouquet—but skip décor setups or anything that might disrupt the space. During the Christmas season, poinsettias decorate the rotunda. This adds a festive feel, but also a lot of red. If red isn’t your vision, it’s best to avoid the holiday season.

5. Explore the Area for Photos

After your ceremony, take advantage of the building’s different looks. The marble staircases and rotunda glow in soft natural light, while the exterior offers clean, classic lines. Step outside for photos in the gardens or wander into downtown for a mix of historic and modern backdrops.
