Salmon River Engagement | Katie & John | Riggins, Idaho
I meet most of my wedding clients at their engagement session. I had chatted over the phone with John and Katie when they first reached out to me from Chicago and I could tell from our phone conversation that they weren’t a serious couple. They laughed a lot and I had a feeling their engagement session was going to be fun.
We met in Riggins before heading up the Main Salmon. Katie greeted me with “I brought a duster and few bottles of champagne”. My imitate thought was “Heck yes! That's awesome!”. The champagne went with their engagement story and also with their “meeting story”. They met in Las Vegas at a blackjack table - John was visiting with a group of guys, Katie was on a girls weekend. After 8 years of dating John proposed in front of the casino where they met. It only seemed right that they should wear their casino attire and pop a bottle of champagne during their engagement session.
I love the salmon River for so many reasons but in particular I love the variety of landscapes it offers. For this session we spent most of the evening adventuring around French Creek. There are big boulders around the mouth of the creek and a few flats above that offer views of the Salmon River. Katie is an Idaho native with a family history rooted in the outdoors. She spent many hours fishing, hiking and picking up ‘micro trash’ as a child. This location spoke to her childhood and was something new for John who grew up in Georgia.
I am so excited to photograph their wedding this fall in McCall, Idaho. It will be an affair of laughter and good vibes!
